Ingredients of Welsh Cakes

  1. Prepare of self-raising flour.
  2. Prepare of salt.
  3. You need of equal parts cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
  4. You need of butter.
  5. It’s of caster sugar.
  6. Prepare of egg.
  7. You need of milk.
  8. It’s of blueberries.
  9. It’s of dark chocolate chips.

Welsh Cakes step by step

  1. Mix sifted flour, spices and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Using your fingertips rub the butter into the dried ingredients.
  3. Sift in the caster sugar and mix well.
  4. Beat together the egg and milk then mix in with the other ingredients until you have a stiff dough.
  5. Divide the dough into two bowls adding chocolate chips to one bowl and blueberries to the other (mixing well).
  6. Roll each of the doughs between baking paper until about 0.5cm thickness and then refrigerate for 1 hour.
  7. Using a cookie cutter cut out circles of the dough.
  8. Preheat a frying pan with a little butter, then carefully place in the welsh cakes.
  9. Cook the welsh cakes for 4 minutes then flip and cook for another 4 minutes until golden brown and risen slightly.
  10. Remove from the heat, sprinkle with a little caster sugar and serve.
